Stage Four: Community
Medical/Dental Clinic
Our plans include an onsite medical clinic to provide basic healthcare, vaccinations, initial treatment in emergencies and some basic dental care.
Well-known Australian neurosurgeon, Charles Teo, is one of our strongest supporters and has offered to help us establish the clinic.
Community Outreach Program
An Non Government Organisation (NGO) will always have to limit the number of children it can care for. Unfortunately, there are many more Cambodian children in great need than we can accommodate. Many children’s centres in Cambodia also take in children who are not orphans in the literal sense of the word. They come from families who are simply too poor to support their children. These children often have to work to help support the family. There is no question that, where it is safe, children are better off staying with their families. GKG is developing a fledgling outreach programme for such cases, to provide some children with the support they need, thus enabling them to stay with their families.
Eventually we would like to establish a network of community centres to provide help with basic needs, instruction and assistance in establishing community gardens, vocational training and visiting nurses to provide primary healthcare.
After our Community Outreach Program is established, we plan to support our work (and help boost the local economy) through a number of enterprises.
