Stage Two: Eco Village
We envision that the village will be self-sustaining in terms of its food and energy needs.
The buildings would be designed to be able to withstand the rigours of the Cambodian climate using passive solar principles and be powered by renewable energy sources.
Water supplies will be filtered, and treated if necessary, to ensure quality and wastewater treated for plantation use.
A recycling and waste management centre will be incorporated in the village design.
We aim to provide accommodation for 200 impoverished children. Rather than one large institution, the model we favour is one in which small groups (up to eight children) are cared for in individual cottages by a house-mother and father which would create more of a ‘family’ atmosphere.
This model would enable us to expand our capacity to care for more children by building additional cottages.
Permaculture and Kitchen Garden
The cottages and other buildings will be situated within a permaculture garden that will provide the overall village and restaurant with the bulk of its fruit, vegetable and herb requirements. It will also provide educational opportunities for the children to learn how to care for a garden and produce their own food. You can learn more about permaculture by clicking here.
After the Eco Village is up and running, we plan to introduce Extra-Curricular Education.
